Indian Co-operative Oncology Network (ICON - ARO)
The Indian Cooperative Oncology Network (ICON) is an independent organization dedicated to the cause of cancer patient care in India. It is a registered charitable organization (NGO), working in this field since 1999 (registered with charity commissioner of Greater Mumbai). ICON is India’s first and largest co-operative study group.
ICON’s mission statements are:
- To aim for better prevention and management of human cancers in this country.
- To foster and encourage cooperative clinical research in oncology at a national level.
- To participate in all phases of clinical research in oncology while upholding respect for individual patients.
- To generate data that is of high quality, ethical, complies with good clinical practices and which is acceptable to regulatory and statutory bodies /authorities.
- To disseminate such knowledge at local, regional, national and international levels.
- To promote the development of oncology as a subspecialty in India.
ICON focuses on Research at a national and international level. So far ICON has undertaken 31 protocols of which 10 are completed, 11 are ongoing, 9 are under review and 1 has been discontinued. ICON has dedicated ethics and scientific review committees. It also has a managing committee of 12 members, a scientific advisory committee, an international committee and a data monitoring committee. In addition they have specific disease committees that look into various research protocols and programs.
